• Historic journalism is becoming searchable, licensable digital infrastructure. Reuters and ITN announced a partnership to make more than 70 years of broadcast archives available through Reuters Connect, using AI for metadata, transcription, translation and discovery. Another 12,000 hours of footage will be digitized. (Reuters)
• Publishers are preparing for “Google Zero.” Media leaders meeting in London this week discussed how declining search referrals and AI-generated answers are forcing publishers to build direct audience relationships rather than depending on platforms for distribution. • Creator journalism is moving closer to the center of news strategy. An international news-media summit on September 10 focused specifically on what publishers can learn from creators about trust, voice, formats and relationships with younger audiences. (INMA)
• Traditional local journalism remains under severe pressure. McClatchy cut more than 90 unionized journalism positions across 17 U.S. publications—roughly 30% of its unionized newsroom workforce—illustrating why new economic models for civic information remain urgent. (AP News)
