What if our crises are not separate problems?

We tend to treat them as separate crises.
- But what if they are symptoms of the same underlying system?
Much of the world still operates through institutions designed during an industrial age built around:
- Extraction.
- Exploitation.
- Concentration.
- Colonization.
- Competition.
- Consumption.
- Extract resources.
- Exploit labor.
- Concentrate wealth and power.
- Turn nature into commodities.
- Turn citizens into consumers.
- Turn attention into a product.
And keep growth going—whether or not it improves our lives.
The problem might not be the people.
The operating system is outdated.
- We are trying to solve 21st-century problems with systems designed for another age.
- And when the underlying system keeps producing the same outcomes, fixing one crisis at a time is not enough.
- We have to change the system that keeps creating them.

What if our systems were designed around a different starting point?

Most people have heard of human rights.
Far fewer have actually read the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
Adopted after the devastation of World War II, its 30 articles describe something remarkably practical:
A world where every person has dignity.
- Freedom.
- Safety.
- Education.
- Health.
- Participation.
- Equal treatment.
- Economic security.
- Freedom of thought and expression.
- And the ability to live without fear or oppression.
What if we treated those rights as design specifications?
Instead of asking:
How do we make the existing system grow?
Ask:
How do we design systems that actually deliver these rights?
That changes everything.
