In early June, SJN will be offering a Train-the-Trainers (ToT) program for journalism school educators interested in (or already) leading solutions journalism trainings in their communities or regions. This is a cost-free opportunity to develop solutions journalism training skills and to support solutions journalism projects with SJN’s accreditation and support. The curriculum is being customized to meet the needs of college instructors who have a grounding in solutions journalism, be they from four-year programs, community colleges, HBCUs, or HSIs. Applicants based outside the United States may apply.

During five online sessions held over the course of two weeks, the educators will work together to brainstorm ideas and strategies for teaching solutions journalism: rigorous reporting on how people are responding to problems. Each session will last for 3 hours on June 4, 6, 9, 11 and 13, between 4:30pm PDT and 7:30pm PDT.

The sessions will be led by:

  • J.D. Allen, lecturer at Stony Brook University School of Communication and Journalism
  • Kate Roff, PhD candidate at the Department of Media, Adelaide University
  • Mónica Quesada Cordero, co-founder of El Colectivo 506

Before you apply, please make sure you’re able to join all five sessions as your presence is not only a mandatory requirement but also a core component to make this participant-driven training complete.
