What’s Happening

  • Sustainable debt reached a new scale. Climate Bonds Initiative reported that aligned green, social, sustainability and sustainability-linked debt has reached about $7.3 trillion cumulatively, with green bonds posting their strongest quarter yet. (Climate Bonds)
  • Forests are being turned into an investable preservation system. Brazil’s Tropical Forest Forever Facility aims to mobilize $125 billion and pay countries for maintaining standing forests rather than only selling carbon credits. Twenty percent of distributions are intended for Indigenous Peoples and local communities. (Reuters)
  • Green finance is spreading beyond major economies. Laos saw what was described as its first green bond, with proceeds intended for electric-mobility charging infrastructure, while Spain’s sovereign green bond offering drew exceptionally strong investor demand. (Environmental Finance)
  • Finance is starting to treat nature as infrastructure. Investment managers are expanding beyond traditional timber and conservation funds toward broader natural-capital strategies covering forests, agriculture, biodiversity and ecosystem resilience. (Sustainable Finance Daily)

System signal: The emerging question is no longer simply “Is this investment green?” but “What social or ecological system does this capital strengthen?
