Mid-level, Full-time staff position

Chemonics seeks a climate integration specialist/engineer for the USAID/Kyrgyz Republic Green Economy Activity. The Green Economy Activity aims to build the capacity of the Kyrgyz Republic to adapt to and mitigate the effects of climate change in its economy in order to create and develop a “green economy,” or one that is low carbon, resource-efficient, and socially inclusive. The Activity will promote practices that contribute to a robust and resilient economy, reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in the private and public sectors, increase climate financing, and develop a policy framework to catalyze sustainable and green climate solutions. It will promote initiatives that use fewer resources to produce the same amount of output that do not negatively impact land, water, and air quality.

Please note that this position is subject to successful program award. This position is anticipated to be based in the Kyrgyz Republic. We are looking for individuals who have a passion for making a difference in the lives of people around the world.

Responsibilities Include

Act as a technical advisor on climate adaptation and climate mitigation activities
Serve as the guiding advisor during the grant selection and condition-setting for the grant recipients to ensure that all the activities are aligned with the contract’s climate agenda and GHG reduction agenda
Serve as the climate adaptation/mitigation activities lead, ensuring compliance with USAID climate risk management processes, as detailed in relevant ADS mandatory references
Provide a technical advice and guidance to project leadership, working to identify and analyze climate vulnerabilities and develop mitigation measures by monitoring, identifying, and sharing opportunities to integrate climate change adaptation and mitigation into the main components of the Activity
Provide advice to the grant program to ensure that grants under contract are aligned with the contract’s objectives about GHG reduction, green economy activities, and energy efficiency
Work with the environmental compliance team on the climate and environmental impact of the activities
Work closely with the monitoring and evaluation function to set forth the system of GHG measurement, energy efficiency measurement, target setting, and impact assessment of the activities in relation to the Activity’s climate change mitigation and adaptation agendas

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in environmental studies, ecology, integrated sustainable development, natural resource management, engineering, construction management or a closely related field
A minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in an area involving application of climate mitigation/adaptation integration into production, construction, industry or agriculture, climate proof infrastructure, or closely related regulations, standards, policies, and best practices in a similar country context is required
National or international certifications are preferred, including Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED), Sustainability Excellence Professional (SEP), or similar certificates in climate mitigation and adaptation related areas
Extensive experience working with host government officials, and private sector representatives, and participating in key counterpart, donor, and coordination meetings
Good writing and monitoring, evaluation, and learning (M&E) skills and experience
Fluency speaking, reading, and writing in English and Russian, Kyrgyz language is highly preferred
